Join us for the 2018 Biostatistics Joint Symposium which is supported by The Ohio State University (Department of Statistics, College of Public Health and Center for Biostatistics). Details for the full day symposium are available at: Biostat Symposium Flyer 2018 [pdf]. Keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Boehnke, will present at 2:30pm.
Title
"Identifying Genes For Type 2 Diabetes and Related Traits"
Speaker
Dr. Michael Boehnke, Professor of Biostatistics at University of Michigan
Abstract
In human gene mapping, we seek to determine the genetic basis of human health and disease to improve understanding of biology and disease etiology, to identify new targets for therapy and support better targeting of existing therapies, and to improve risk prediction. In this talk, I will discuss identifying genetic variants that impact risk of type 2 diabetes and variability in diabetes-related traits. I will put the work in an historical context, while emphasizing current work in array- and sequence-based genome-wide association studies. I will discuss lessons learned, including the critical roles of large sample size, innovative statistical and computational methods, and data sharing and collaboration.2018 Joint Symposium.
