Title: Exploring Innovative Approaches to Effective and Inclusive Project-Based Group Learning

Abstract: Project Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogical approach that involves actively engaging students in real-world projects. The goal of PBL is for students to develop critical problem-solving skills as they construct meaningful solutions to a problem. One way to implement PBL is via group work, an approach that reflects how many tasks are accomplished in the real-world. Assigning projects in groups allows students to develop collaborative skills. However, group learning is sometimes not effective and can even be counterproductive because of poor group dynamics. To minimize the negative effects of poor group dynamics on student learning and experience, some techniques around how project activities are assigned, scaffolded, and assessed can be utilized. The techniques that I propose involve making inclusivity a core component of the way project-based group learning activities are designed.
