Title: Teaching in the Classroom....and beyond!

Abstract: The teaching and learning of mathematics and statistics requires a dedication to learning the language and taking a hands on approach. Through these efforts the beauty and usefulness of the mathematical disciplines can be seen and applied to so many facets of life. In this talk I will discuss how I merge the use of a traditional lecture with the active learning necessary to cement the ideas we teach and how I work to keep engagement up in a student body whose focus is split across many different interests. I will also discuss how my teaching interests extend beyond the classroom to collaborations with graduate students and faculty in other disciplines. I will end with a 10-15 minute demonstration of what my typical lectures look like, with plenty of time for questions.
