Title
Functional MRI: Standard Analyses, Outstanding Problems and New Directions
Speaker
Stephen Smith, Head of Image Analysis, Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB, Oxford University, UK)
Abstract
Functional MRI (FMRI) is a rapidly growing imaging method for studying brain function, generating spatiotemporal information about brain activation in reponse to various stimulations. FMRI analysis attempts to extract useful information from the complex, large and noisy 4D data.
In this seminar I will:
- give an overview of the standard steps in the analysis of 4D FMRI data
- explain some outstanding problems/issues in FMRI analysis
- review some recent new research at FMRIB on FMRI anlaysis: time series "pre-whitening" for GLM analysis and model-free multivariate analysis using ICA
