Title
Multivariate Statistical Analysis at IBM Research
Speaker
Yasuo Amemiya, IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center
Abstract
The nature of statistical research in industry has evolved over time, responding to the business landscape changes and the technological development. Today, American industry tends to focus more on service offerings and business management than the traditional manufacturing. Also, the innovative storage, measurement, and computer-experiment technologies have made a massive amount of data available for use. As a result, intelligent data analysis and data-based decision-assisting analytics are becoming crucial components of most business enterprises. This talk presents an overview of statistical activities at IBM Research, and then discusses some multivariate analysis methods developed therein. One example included in the talk is concerned with data center thermal management based on multivariate modeling of computer experiment data.
Meet the speaker in Room 212 Cockins Hall at 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
