Michelle Everson, statistics faculty member, was appointed chair of the American Statistical Association’s (ASA) committee to update the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report. The original GAISE College Report was endorsed by ASA in 2005 and has had a large impact on the teaching of introductory statistics courses at colleges and universities across the country. Everson’s committee is tasked with updating the report in response to the new technologies available to students since 2005 when the original report was published and to take into account the increasingly data-centric world in which students live.
Everson will chair a panel discussion on the committee’s work at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Seattle, Washington, in August 2015. The committee plans to share a preliminary draft of the revised report in 2016. Deb Rumsey, also statistics faculty, serves on the committee as well.
