Professor Laura Kubatko of our statistics program could save the East African economy $1.25 billion through her work on the cassava plant. This East African food staple is being infected by the cassava brown streak virus, and Kubatko is working with a team from around the world to research this virus and create practical tools for farmers in the affected areas.
