Subhadeep Paul awarded President's Research Excellence Accelerator grant

Congratulations to Dr. Subhadeep Paul for being awarded with the President's Research Excellence Accelerator grant!

Subhadeep and his collaborator, Debdipta Goswami are among thirteen interdisciplinary Ohio State research teams that have been awarded up to $50,000 each in Accelerator grants through the President's Research Excellence (PRE) program in the fall cycle.

The Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) released the list of recipients, stating: "PRE Accelerator grants are reserved for small teams formed to pursue curiosity-driven, novel, high-risk and high-reward research. Ohio State has invested more than $5 million to teams of Ohio State investigators through the PRE program since its inception in 2021."

This award will support Subhadeep's research on developing Digital Twin (DT). The ambitious concept of DT, which can replicate complex physical systems such as aerial vehicles digitally, has received enormous interest from industry leaders, policymakers, and scientists. A DT that can simulate flight operational conditions accurately based on data and feedback from the "flying twin" has great potential to improve the safety and reliability of aerial vehicles, especially in extreme service conditions. However, the development of DTs has been largely ad-hoc, with limited mathematical foundations. The interdisciplinary team led by PI Subhadeep Paul from Statistics and Co-PI Debdipta Goswami from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering proposes trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in terms of heterogeneous transfer and personalized federated learning to solve mathematical and computing challenges in developing a DT for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

We are thrilled to celebrate this achievement, and encourage the department and friends to join us in congratulating Subhadeep!
