Whitney Award for Research Recipients: Ye Jin Choi and Biqing Yang

On April 10th, Ye Jin Choi and Biqing Yang presented at the Whitney Award for Research Seminar. Ye Jin Choi’s research focused on K Functions for Spatial Functional Data with Phase Variation and Shapes of Planar Curves, and Biqing Yang’s research highlighted Bayesian Causal Inference with Gaussian Process Priors for Treatment Effect Estimation. Both approaches are evaluated using extensive simulations and real-world applications, showing improved performance compared to several existing methods. While many existing methods focus solely on estimating the ATE, their findings contribute to a more comprehensive Bayesian framework for causal inference, providing theoretical insights and practical guidelines for estimating both the ATE and CATE.
Their outstanding research has earned them the Whitney Award for Research, which will be conferred at the department’s spring award gathering on April 30th. The Whitney Award was created in 1992 by Professor Emeritus Ransom Whitney and his wife Marian Whitney with the goal of funding several awards for graduate students.
Congratulations to Ye Jin Choi and Biqing Yang!
