Yoonji Kim receives Honorable Mention at Hayes Graduate Research Forum

Yoonji Kim, a Statistics Ph.D. student, received an Honorable Mention at the Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Engineering poster presentation session at the Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum. The poster, titled "Model-Based Sequential Alignment of Functions," is based on her research with Professors Oksana Chkrebtii and Sebastian Kurtek. A short description of the work follows.
"We propose a method to recursively update existing modeling results when new functions with phase variation become part of the data. In particular, we develop a sequential Bayesian model-based alignment framework for separation of amplitude and phase in functional data. We show that this approach improves computational efficiency and is flexible in a variety of challenging scenarios."
