Yue Ma wins ASA-SBSS Student Paper Competition
Congratulations to Yue Ma for being selected as a winner in the student paper competitions of two ASA sections - the Section on Bayesian Statistical Science (SBSS) and the Section on Physical and Engineering Sciences (SPES) jointly with the Section on Quality and Productivity (Q&P). Yue has accepted the award from SBSS and will present her work at a special topic-contributed session during the 2026 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM), which will take place from August 1–6, 2026, in Boston, MA. If you plan to attend JSM, please consider attending this session.
The SBSS Student Paper Award recognizes outstanding student research in Bayesian methodology. Winners are selected based on the novelty of the theory/methods developed, the potential for impact, and the clarity of the presentation. Yue’s winning work introduces physical restrictions into probabilistic models of spatially varying states, specifically addressing how to construct Gaussian processes that satisfy linear constraints at the boundaries. You can read her manuscript here.
