Welcome and thank you for reading February's issue of the Stat-50 Newsletter!
This issue celebrates the international impact that department alumni are having through their incredible work in various fields. When I reflect on the breadth of achievement represented in our alumni, I feel immensely proud that the department was able to play a role in supporting so many impressive researchers at the start of their careers. At our 50th Anniversary event last autumn, many of the alumni were able to reconnect and share their current work with each other, and we've recorded interviews with alumni who are living internationally so that they too can join in on the celebration.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to Professor Emeritus, Jason Hsu, for sharing this photo of department alumni Hong-Long and Cristine Wang streaming the Ohio State national championship game in Taipei! It is always remarkable to see such spirit extend beyond campus and to know that so many of you continue to consider yourselves Buckeyes throughout the world.

Looking toward next month, we are very pleased to celebrate the family of Jagdish Rustagi - a former faculty member who has had a huge impact both here in the United States and abroad. Jagdish Rustagi (1923 - 2014; Department Chair 1979-1988) established an endowment in honor of his parents so that the Department of Statistics can host distinguished lecturers in an annual lecture series. We are very excited to be hosting Jessica Utts to give the 38th annual lecture on April 3, 2025, 3-4PM. All are welcome to attend the lecture and following reception on campus, or watch live via simulcast over Zoom. Registration information is now available on the Department event page.
I hope you enjoy reading February's issue!
Sincerely,
Elly Kaizar
Professor and Chair, Department of Statistics
