Dr. Oh-Ran Kwon has joined the Department of Statistics on August 15. Oh-Ran comes to us from the University of Southern California, where she was a postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Jacob Bien in the Department of Data Sciences and Operations at the Marshall School of Business.

Oh-Ran earned her Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Dr. Hui Zou and her M.S. in Statistics from Seoul National University advised by Dr. Yongdai Kim.

Her research encompasses both theory and application, with interests spanning statistical machine and deep learning, predictive modeling, and dimension reduction for complex, high-dimensional data. She has applied her methods in diverse areas including oceanography, chemometrics, and manufacturing.
