Dr. Lang Zeng has joined the Department of Statistics on August 15. Lang comes to us from the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science at the University of Pittsburgh, where he completed his dissertation titled, “Rank-based Statistical Deep Learning Methods in Survival Analysis” under the supervision of Professor Ying Ding, earning his Ph.D. in June 2026.
Lang earned an M.S. in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan. Prior to that, he received dual degrees in Preventive Medicine (B.Med.) and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (B.Sc.) from Peking University.
His research focuses on developing statistical and machine learning methods for understanding disease progression and advancing precision medicine, with particular interests in survival analysis, rank-based learning, and multimodal biomedical and omics data. Beyond research, Lang is passionate about mentoring the next generation of statisticians and contributing to the department through teaching and service.
