The American Statistical Association (ASA) and the Caucus for Women in Statistics (CWS) are pleased to host the second annual Florence Nightingale Day. This event will be held for middle and high school students at the Ohio State University campus as well as other locations across the country on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Florence Nightingale was a founder of modern nursing and a pioneer of statistical graphics, and is credited with developing a variant of the well-known pie chart to track disease mortality over time.

Bill Notz, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Statistics, has received the American Statistical Associations Founders Award. The award was given for Bill's "outstanding section leadership, including serving as chair of the Physical and Engineering Sciences Section and Section on Statistical Education and as vice chair of the Council of Sections Governing Board; for outstanding publications leadership, including service as editor of Technometrics and the Journal of Statistics Education (JSE); and for leadership in statistics education as a member of the ASA/MAA Joint Committee on Undergraduate Statistics, as chair and as executive committee member of the Statistics Education Section, as editor of JSE, and for his financial support of the Best JSE Paper Award."
